The human eye still matters
There is a difference between something being correct and something being good.
A layout can be technically responsive and still feel horrible on a phone.
A page can contain all the right information and still be confusing.
A beautifully designed section can still be in the wrong place.
A perfectly written paragraph can still be saying something the visitor doesn't need to know yet.
Sometimes you just know.
You look at something and think:
That's not it.
You may not immediately be able to explain why.
But that's part of design.
Human beings are remarkably good at noticing things before they can articulate exactly what they've noticed.
So will AI replace web designers?
Some parts of web design? Absolutely.
And that's probably a good thing.
AI will make production faster, cheaper and more accessible.
But perhaps the future isn't human versus AI.
Perhaps it's a much simpler division of labour:
Let AI build. Let humans look, listen, think, judge and refine.
Because building a website is becoming easier.
Building the right website is another matter entirely.
And perhaps that's where the cherry on top comes in.
Next: Because there is one thing AI can't easily measure: how something feels.
